Preguntas más Frecuentes

Do you have a membership scheme?
No. ADKN is a set of alliances and collaborations carried out under a single brand name, backed up by this website, newsletters, reports and so on. There is no need to say that anyone is or isn't a member.

People are required to become registered users of the website, but this is not the same as being a “member” of ADKN.

How do I get access to the ADKNís knowledge-base?
To get access to most of the content of the website you need to register. This will also allow you to join mailing lists and to request printed copies of material.

I have an idea for a knowledge-sharing activity that I think ADKN should be carrying out: what should I do?
You can start a discussion about your idea on one of the message boards, you can contact the ADKN secretariat to discuss your idea, or both.

Are there ways for ADKN to be involved in existing knowledge-sharing or knowledge-creating projects?
Yes. If you have knowledge, information, research findings or anything else worth sharing, we would like to help you to disseminate it. We can run internet and newsletter stories about your knowledge, we can store your information in our document libraries and we can open discussions of your knowledge on our discussion groups. We can also promote your knowledge informally.

If you are looking for staff and/or organizations to participate in projects and initiatives, we can also help contact possible partners on your behalf.

There are a lot of other networks around: why do we have ADKN as well?
”ADKN” is just a brand for a series of collaborative projects between organizations who like to work with each other, backed up by tools like this website. It exists because it helps these organizations collaborate, in a way that other networks don't.

Are you sure that ADKN is sustainable?
Yes. ADKN is not going to go away for two reasons: because the organizations involved are not going to stop collaborating and. because the secretariat will ensure that new and useful content continues to be disseminated by ADKN. ADKN's core funding comes from HRDI, not foreign donors, meaning that we will not stop because of a change in donor's policy or a problem with a grant application.

Everyone agrees that if development isnít participatory, it will fail. How does ADKN recognize that?
ADKN is about helping development professionals to share knowledge. One of the topics they will be exchanging knowledge about is how to make sure that development is participatory.

What is “Alternative Development”? Doesnít it only apply to drug-crop reduction through development?
“Alternative Development” does have a special meaning in drug crop control, but that is not what we mean here. It means a kind of development that is integrated, long-term, done in partnership with local people and informed by best practice.
